Concept: Community Concern for English Pedagogy and Teaching is a blind peer-reviewed and open-accessed journal which welcomes both local and global scientists to share and raise principled approach to research on English language teaching and learning. Contribution in such areas of linguistics, language in literature, language in tourism, art, and culture are also welcomed (more on focus&scope). This journal is published twice a year in June and December, with ISSN 2337-8735 (Print) and ISSN 2337-8735 (Online). Only sent manuscripts that followed the guidelines will be proccessed. Submitted papers will initially be reviewed by editors and for further review will be done by reviewers.

Abstract

Kahoot! is one of game-based students' response systems (GSRS) that can be used as formative assessment. Formative assessment helps teacher to identify students who struggle to understand the material, to develop skills that they are difficult to acquire, to meet standards competence. Therefore adjustment should be made to the lesson. However, the use of Kahoot! as formative assessment is rarely implemented in Indonesian universities. To fill this void, this study aims to explore the lecture who uses Kahoot! as a formative assessment in their class. The researcher used the construct by Wiliam & Thompson (2007) to characterize formative assessment. The purpose of this study is to reveal more information of the use of Kahoot! as formative assessment in higher education. A qualitative method was presented in this study. The tutor who used Kahoot! as a formative assessment in their class was chosen as the participant. The data were acquired through observation of the tutor. The research findings found out that through Kahoot! as formative assessment, the tutor could develop activities such as clarifying information, doing classroom discussion and also providing feedback. An attractive finding also found that Kahoot! as formative assessment also provides students self-assessment and self-improvement. The result shows that besides being used as a tool for assess students, Kahoot! also provide learners to clarify the question, classroom discussion and also provide feedback, it depends on how the teacher used and forced it. Abstract

This study was implemented in private Islamic secondary school in Yogyakarta. This study aims to support student motivation in studying English with multimedia as the assistance. The use of multimedia such as pictures, videos, and games are expected to create an active atmosphere of learning and teaching. This practice was conducted for four times and the result show that students were very engage while studying English and the class atmosphere become more fun and less monotone. How is the use of multimedia mediates activity to teach formal invitation in a private Islamic Secondary School? I learned that students demonstrated better learning engagement during the lesson. Abstract

The objectives of this study entitled “An Analysis Of Moral Values As Portrayed By Mark Watney’s Characteristics In “The Martian” Movie Script, are: (1) to describe Mark Watney’s characteristics in “The Martian (2015)” movie script. (2) to analyze the moral values as portrayed by Mark Watney’s characteristics in “The Martian (2015)” movie script. The investigation of moral values in this study used a definition proposed by Thomas Lickona. This study used qualitative content analysis approach. The instrument of this research is human as the researcher and the data sheet. The data used of this study are words and sentences. The validity used is theoretical validity and investigator validity. This study indicated that characteristics of Mark Watney is a sense of humor, a supremely chill guy, and a spirit of survival and soul. Moral values that portrayed by Mark Watney’s characteristics is sense of humor, self-control, self-confidence, humility, intellectual curiosity, hard-working, problem solving, courage, and integrity. Abstract

This study aimed at finding out the target needs and learning needs of English Club members and designing the appropriate sylllabus speaking based Cirebonese Culture of English club member in Kedawung Vocational State High School. This study focused on extracurricular of English Club which consist of 38 members. Research and development (R&D) was used as the design of the study. The steps of the study were conducting needs analysis including the target needs and learning needs, writing the first syllabus, expert judgment, and writing the final syllabus. Interview, observation, document analysis, needs analysis questionnaire, and expert judgment analysis were used as the instruments of the study. The result of analysis for general aspect analysis was 3.07 or very good. Which means that the syllabus design based Cirebonese culture was appropriate to the English club members’ needs. Abstract

The objectives of the research are to analyze speech act classification and the form of commissive speech act used in the Adele song. The approach of this study was descriptive qualitative. The researchers found 49 data based on the analyzed data, the most frequently occurring in speech act classification is commissive. Commssive occured 26 times (53, 06%), followed by expressive 13 times (26, 53 %), then representative 5 times (10, 20 %), directive 3 times (6, 12%) and declaration 2 times (4, 08 %). Then the researchers found and analyzed Adele lyric songs, based on form of commissive speech act, there are threat, refusal, promise, offer, warning, and volunteering. The researchers found and analyzed 26 data, based on the analyzed; the most frequently occurring commissive speech act is promise. Promise occured 10 times (38, 46 %), followed by offer as much 6 times (23, 07 %), then warning 4 times (15, 38%), threat 3 times (11, 53%), refusal 2 times (3, 84%) and volunteer occurs 2 times (7, 69%) Keywords: Pragmatic; Speech Act; Speech Act Classifications by Searle form of Commissive; Song
